To create the Index, the team here at Bamboo collected trade-in and buyback payouts for ten buyback programs in the market today and nearly 50 devices. The snippet below includes only a sampling of iPhones from AT&T, Verizon and Sprint.
Interestingly, Amazon's program pays out 44% higher than the average amount (100%). Conversely, US Cellular has a notably lower payout than all of the others. Also the payout incentives vary--cash, check, gift cards, credit on the bill. Amazon can be more generous with a store gift card than US Cellular paying out via check.

Some observations from the Index:
- Amazon is highest on the index but only for Apple products. Some of the other brands are bought back at lower price points via Amazon's trade-in program.
- US Cellular is the lowest on the index; however, the carrier does payout in monetary cash incentive i.e., check in the mail.
- Samsung and HTC are nearly identical on the pricing index; they also use the same vendor for their program.
